That’s right, a well written scene is a lot like a sandwich.
You start with the conflict. And it can be rye conflict, or pumpernickel, but you need to start there.
Then add some character meat, a little voice spread, maybe some stakes cheese, and spice it with a little back story.
You can add all sorts of things to middle, and you should, since well proportioned variety can make an excellent sandwich, but you have to start with the bread. Without conflict, you just don’t have a sandwich anymore.
