Dearest Tweeps,*
This is an old tweet, but it still applies.
The truth is, social media in general is very organic. The major sites have made it as simple as possible to share things we like, be they videos, picture, or information. By asking for retweets you show an intense interest in gaming the system. The system being us.
People don’t like being played.
So get your shares and retweets the right way: Make killer content. That’s what people want anyway!
*For the uninitiated: Tweeps is Twitter slang for “Twitter People.”

I tend to agree with this, actually, although I wouldn’t be as radical to block them. I simply raise my chin and roll my eyes :p

I haven’t blocked anyone yet. I don’t think I’ve ever retweeted anyone who asked, either. Mostly on principle.

The only time I don’t mind the “Please RT” is for legit charity purposes. Having been involved in a legitimate Twitterthon for a charity, I know most of us involved did, on occasion, ask for the RT. Have I used the word LEGITIMATE enough?
For all else, I tend to agree with you. The “Please RT” has become the “chain letter” of Twitter.

I’ll admit, for charity cases, I tolerate the ‘please RT’ quite a bit more. I also think most charity cases will get the RT on their own merit. (Does that make me an optimist, believing in humanity like that?)

It doesn’t bother me. If I like the link, I RT. I can see how it could get irritating though. Depends on the tweep, maybe. 😀
Patrick Thunstrom said:
It definitely depends on the tweep. Thanks for stopping by, Sonia!

“Please RT” is implied, right? I mean, call me crazy but I’ve never tweeted and tacked on “Oh my God people please DO NOT RT this. It’s SEEKRET SQUIRREL… for just the 300 people who follow me.” Right?
If the link or Tweet rocks, we’ll RT it. I follow a couple of people who tack on PLS RT!!!OMG111ONEONEBBQ at the end of *every* single tweet and it becomes The Boy Who Cried Wolf. Good Tweet or linking great content will get an automatic RT. Begging me to PLS RT your stupid 2-paragraph rambling about what you ate for dinner and the scent of your dog’s farts will make me unfollow you.
Wow, I went on a little rant there. Nice work, Patrick!
Patrick Thunstrom said:
Thank you very much. Doubly so for the laugh!

I have to agree, Patrick. But if they are charity tweets or similar then I will retweet anyway. Everyone else has to earn it!

Thanks for the comment!

“SEEKRET SQUIRREL” ROFLOL I love that! May have to start using that for tweets. #seekretsquirrel
Patrick Thunstrom said:
Uh-oh, did we just develop a new #MyWANA in-joke tag?
Sonia G Medeiros said:
Me thinks so. LOL. Perhaps the seekret squirrel is related to The Pants of Shame.
